Big Muddy Brewing Pumpkin Smasher

I know it's a little late in the year, but I had to do a post on the Big Muddy Brewing Pumpkin Smasher. I saw this sitting on the shelves in Friar Tuck and decided to try it for 3 reasons (1) I love pumpkin beer (2) A logo featuring Sasquatch smashing a pumpkin while holding a beer is a must try and (3) They're a brewing company out of Southern IL. I must say I really enjoy this beer. For the price it's a very reasonable deal. The taste is a nice balance of pumpkin and spices. I liked it enough to buy 2 more sixers and will revisit next year.

Wells Banana Bread Beer

I've seen a few friends post pictures up of this beer and they all really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of banana's and banana bread so I figured this was definitely worth a try. So when I saw it sitting on the shelves of my new Binny's in Bloomington, I knew I had to try it! From the first crack of the cap you can smell the bananas. The stuff actually smells like banana bread. 5.2% ABV banana bread, yes yes! There's very few things I enjoy more than catching a slight buzz off my food! Lets just say I really like this and would buy it again. Wells Banana Bread is imported from England and is made by Well's and Young's Brewing Co. The same company makes Young's (I love the Young's double chocolate stout!!) I always love trying different beers that are a little out there and slightly off the wall. I guess they fit my personality well.

What I'm drinking: Firestone Walker Double Jack

This is my first time ever trying Firestone Walker and what a beer to start it with! I got this from the new Binny's in Bloomington on opening day (check it out by the way!). The Firestone Walker Double Jack has extremely high ratings and has won numerous awards. I am definitely a fan of double IPA's and this is very good. How can a beer with a lion and a bear on the label be bad?! 9.5% ABV of goodness!
and the new Binny's Beverage Depot in Bloomington IL my hometown! It's great to finally get a Binny's in Bloomington IL. If you search my blog you will see what a big fan of Binny's I am. Fantastic selection of great products, really helpful staff (both online and in stores) and good prices as well!

Half Acre Daisy Cutter Pale Ale

I picked up Half Acre Daisy Cutter at Binny's in Schaumburg. As you know I'm a big fan of Binny's, and this was my first trip to the Schaumburg store. They're currently remodeling, but still had a pretty decent selection.

Half Acre is a beer company out of the greatest city in the world, Chicago. I believe currently due to the size of Half Acre that their products are only available in the Chicago area Binny's locations. I have been hearing a lot of buzz about Half Acre Beer Company lately so when I saw this on the shelves I had to try it! 4 1 Pint cans of Daisy Cutter for $9.49, which is a very reasonable price. At 5.2% ABV this is very drinkable, a good pale ale for a session, and goes down very smoothly on an unseasonably warm March day like today. Given that it's available in 16 oz cans and is flat out delicious I will definitely be purchasing this again! This would be an excellent choice for beaches and camp areas that ban bottles. I look forward to trying more products from Half Acre in the future!

Bells Hopslam

It's that time of the year again for one of the best beers on planet Earth: Bell's Hopslam! I won't even go into detail on how good it is, because it's just that good. Easily one of my favorites and one of my most sought after beers year after year! Pick some up while you can because it probably won't stay on the shelves for long!

Binny's opens in Champaign IL

Finally my favorite place on the planet has opened with 50 miles from me! I wish it was in Bloomington of course, but Champaign is close enough! The building looks great and the selection looks pretty good as well. I will let you know more when I visit it! Here is the article along with pictures.

Here is a list of some of the breweries available.

Make sure to search on my blog for my Binny's trip (I've made plenty of them, but only did one post on it!) The reason for an hour plus drive instead of a 2 minute drive to Friar Tuck? Three Floyd's, Half Acre, Stone (yes I know we carry that here now), Great Lakes, Brooklyn Brewery, and the list goes on and on! Amazing selection and atmosphere at every Binny's location I've been too!

This is also my first blog post in nearly a year! I had health problems last year (not attributed to alcohol!)which pretty much ruined my year last year. I'm back and ready to have some fun this year though! Make sure you check out Binny's in Champaign, if it's half as good as their other stores, then you will be impressed!

Beer soap

Brooklyn Brewery owner Steve Hindy is now making his own soap. I must admit I have taken a few showers in beer before, so this will be right up my alley. Beer soap sounds like a real winner to me. Read the story here
